Dream Away
Getaway Café Owners Lou and Nancy
Lou Manolios learned at an early age the value of hard work. Growing up in a large, close-knit Greek family, he started washing dishes at his grandfather’s restaurant near Forbes Field when he was 12.
Over the years, Lou absorbed everything he could about the food business by working next to his grandfather weekends and summers until he graduated from high school.
In 1978, when Lou met Nancy, he shared early on his dream of one day owning and operating a restaurant. Eleven years after they married, the Getaway Café was open for business.
Lou brings his vast knowledge and years of experience as a hard-working businessman to this upscale restaurant known for its great food and service.
A dream come true, Lou and Nancy have a hands-on approach to running the Getaway Café and treat their staff and customers like family.
Both credit their parents and grandparents for teaching them their unrelenting determination and strong work ethic. In turn, Lou and Nancy have instilled these values in their five daughters who have all worked at the restaurant.
Nancy claims that it was the perfect way for the girls to learn the value of hard work, responsibility and money management. Plus they have all made many lifelong friends along the way. And according to Lou, he couldn’t manage without his nephew, Christopher. Christopher is the General Manager and can be found in the “front of the house” nearly every day.
The Getaway Café offers great food and a good table in an elegant yet casual and friendly atmosphere. Lou and Nancy continue to respond to evolving palates and special dietary needs with fresh, healthy and personalized cuisine offering an eclectic range of menu choices using the finest, freshest ingredients. As Lou is always saying, “We care about what we serve… and we are constantly dreaming up ways to exceed our guests’ expectations.”
Dream away, Lou, dream away….
